Winter in Melbourne can be very cold but this June has been relatively mild. It is only now that we are starting to get some colder mornings but as yet the normal grey and drizzly weather hasn’t arrived. Still, there are two more winter months to come.
The winter months here can be quite colourful, with the last of the autumn leaves falling, and the outdoor orchids beginning to flower. Although my winter pansies have struggled, my native grevillea bushes are flourishing.
Mandarins are in season and my Abutilon ‘Little Imp Chinese Lantern’ bush is taking over. You can see its pretty lantern like flowers in the photo at the top of the post, along with an antique carnelian cross pendant.

More winter colors – orange, yellow, green and white – can be seen in the Georgian brooch above, with its delicate gold beaded border.

Silvery spider webs can be seen stretching from bush to bush. When we get frosts in the mornings, the webs glisten with tiny water drops.
The lovely agate in the pendant below shows striking dendritic branches and a misty background, with maybe a cobweb in there as well.

I still prefer the warmer months though.
